TN HIMSS is proud to announce that the chapter has received the FY2018 HIMSS Chapter of the Year award as the top Large-sized chapter in North America, and previous Tennessee Chapter President, Tommy Lewis has received the honor of Chapter Leader of the Year award.

Each year, HIMSS honors its members for their contributions to the Society, their organizations and to health information technology. Chapter of the Year nominees receive scores based on their chapter engagement, service to members, communication, recruitment, education/professional development, leadership training, advocacy and innovation.

“On behalf of our 2,100 statewide members and our organizational affiliates who dedicate time and effort to our mission of “better health through information and technology,” I’m pleased and humbled, by this news,” said Eric Thrailkill, president of the Tennessee HIMSS Chapter. “I couldn’t be more proud of our Executive Director, Board of Directors, Officers, Committee Chairs and Ambassadors. Gaining the esteemed Chapter of the Year status requires a total team effort – with dedication and skills in finance, administration, membership, marketing, communication, sponsorships, programs, education and events.”

The Chapter Leader of the Year Award recognizes an individual who demonstrates significant leadership, extraordinary contributions to chapters of HIMSS and the HIMSS organization as a whole through their commitment to the health information and technology industry. HIMSS celebrates all chapter volunteers and annually recognizes the exceptional work of the Chapter Leader of the Year.

“Tommy has tirelessly given his time, patience and expertise in support of the Tennessee Chapter of HIMSS. With his calm approach, organizational savvy and passion for health information and technology, he has successfully guided officers and committees in pursuit of our first Chapter of the Year award.  He’s always available, responsive to member requests and provides the leadership needed to move this Chapter forward.  I’m privileged to have Tommy’s support and guidance through my term as President,” said Thrailkill.

Lewis has elevated HIMSS both locally and globally within the membership and healthcare ecosystems in Tennessee, as evidenced by the deep partnerships, increased member engagement and respect of other organizations. Chapter board members and colleagues view Lewis as a motivational leader that has enacted change, driven new educational and thought leadership programs and instilled passion in others through his dedication to HIMSS.

“I’m humbled by being honored as Chapter Leader of the Year,” said Tommy Lewis previous Tennessee HIMSS Chapter President. “However, what means the most to me is that the Tennessee Chapter has been awarded Chapter of the Year by HIMSS.  This is a true testament to our leadership team and Board members as well as our Ambassadors and volunteers who collectively make this the best HIMSS chapter in all the world.  It is a privilege to be a part of this great chapter and organization.”

There are 57 chapters of HIMSS throughout North America, Puerto Rico, Canada and India. The HIMSS Board of Directors approved the selection of the award winners.
