Summit highlights emerging trends

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – August 18, 2016 – The Tennessee HIMSS Chapter will host its eighth annual Summit of the Southeast on September 14-15 at the Music City Center in Nashville. The conference attracts hundreds of healthcare IT professionals, healthcare providers and technology companies from the southeast region to explore emerging trends in areas like: information security; medical devices; the internet of things; predictive analytics; precision care and more.

Conference participants will hear from a diverse group of experts and organizations, including keynote sessions featuring Amazon, Intel and the US Defense Health Agency. Dr. Mark Frisse of the Vanderbilt University School of Medicine will lead a thought-provoking session titled, “Under Disruption: Why Health IT is Out of Control”. The conference includes three educational tracks: 1) HIT: Beyond Just Technology; 2) Clinical Excellence; and 3) Innovation @ Work.

“The Summit of the Southeast brings together leading experts to address trends shaping the healthcare industry and the challenges that keep us up at night,” said Tommy Lewis, Tennessee HIMSS Chapter President. “HIMSS is the largest industry group devoted to healthcare IT in the United States. Healthcare is in a constant state of evolution and the pace of change we’re seeing today is unparalleled. The Summit provides an important forum for exploring these changes and sharing ideas and best practices.”

The Nashville Technology Council reported that the technology sector in Middle Tennessee grew by more than 2,200 workers in 2015[1].  TN HIMSS provides education and networking opportunities for health IT professionals – and works to attract and develop the skilled workforce required to meet this growing demand.

“I believe we have to grow and develop talent from home as well as attract talent from other areas,” Lewis said. “This is a challenge that affects all of our members’ abilities to be successful and is critical to the continued economic development of Nashville and the southeast region.”
